Little children, make sure no one deceives you; the one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous; the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil. No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 10 By this the children of God and the children of the devil are obvious: anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who does not love his brother.

For the next four weeks, we will be looking at certain tactics our enemy uses to rob us of our joy. The first killjoy we will look at we have named, Saulmonella; comparison. The disease of comparison plagued King Saul his entire life. When Saul began comparing himself to other people, it poisoned him. He wound up a murderous, violent, vindictive man. Rather than comparing ourselves to others, God would have us be content. The key to contentment is to do what is right.1 John 3 says you can tell whether you are a child of God if you do what is right, and by your love for your brothers and sisters. So, if you’re doing God’s will, you will not make unhealthy comparisons, become jealous, and start down the path to sin. Perhaps we need renewal from within. Rather than worrying about the things of this world, set your minds on things above. After all, that is where your Heavenly Father dwells.
