03 Jan Luke 2:29-32
29 “Now Lord, You are releasing Your bond-servant to depart in peace, According to Your word; 30 For my eyes have seen Your salvation, 31 Which You have prepared in the presence of all peoples, 32 A Light of revelation to the Gentiles, And the glory of Your people Israel.”
When Simeon said “dismiss” it refers to the, “Nunc Dimittis” of the Latin Vulgate translation used as a hymn. This is a moment when Simeon had seen what God promised to him, and he was ready to die because what God promised to him had been fulfilled. In our society, this would be consistent with someone on the verge of death, but wanting to see a loved one get married, then following the ceremony they are ready. While we are here on earth it should be our mission to share the love of Christ with all whom we come into contact. Then, when our time has come we are eager to be in the presence of our heavenly Father. Simeon is okay to be dismissed because he understood he was obedient to the Lord. We must have the same mindset and be eager to be obedient.
