12 Oct Luke 4:22-23
22 All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips. “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?” they asked. 23 Jesus said to them, “Surely you will quote this proverb to me: ‘Physician, heal yourself!’ And you will tell me, ‘Do here in your hometown what we have heard that you did in Capernaum.’”
After Jesus taught, I picture there was a silence because of the wisdom and power of his words. The people were shocked at who was teaching and how well he did. Then, after the shock began to wear off, they began to question Jesus and what he said. The whispers soared around the room asking, “is he claiming to be the long-awaited Messiah, Joseph’s son?” The people started with amazement, that quickly turned into curiosity. We have all been around something that happened and our response was “it is too good to be true”; therefore, the initial amazement turns into skepticism. When it comes to our Lord, He is amazing and what He has done for us, there are no words. Often, when we cannot explain or understand something in the Bible we tend to get skeptical. As you read, take His words for what they are, and do not question just because of lack of understanding. Ask God to help you understand and trust that He will do so.
