17 Nov 1 Chronicles 29:14-17; 2 Corinthians 6:6-15

14 “But who am I and who are my people that we should be able to offer as generously as this? For all things come from You, and from Your hand we have given You. 15 For we are sojourners before You, and tenants, as all our fathers were; our days on the earth are like a shadow, and there is no hope. 16 O LORD our God, all this abundance that we have provided to build You a house for Your holy name, it is from Your hand, and all is Yours. 17 Since I know, O my God, that You try the heart and delight in uprightness, I, in the integrity of my heart, have willingly offered all these things; so now with joy I have seen Your people, who are present here, make their offerings willingly to You.

2 Corinthians 6:6-15

6 in purity, in knowledge, in patience, in kindness, in the Holy Spirit, in genuine love, 7 in the word of truth, in the power of God; by the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and the left, 8 by glory and dishonor, by evil report and good report; regarded as deceivers and yet true; 9 as unknown yet well-known, as dying yet behold, we live; as punished yet not put to death, 10 as sorrowful yet always rejoicing, as poor yet making many rich, as having nothing yet possessing all things.

11 Our mouth has spoken freely to you, O Corinthians, our heart is opened wide. 12 You are not restrained by us, but you are restrained in your own affections. 13 Now in a like exchange—I speak as to children—open wide to us also.

14 Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness? 15 Or what harmony has Christ with Belial, or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever?

There may be giving without praise, but there cannot be praise without giving. True praise is always accompanied by giving. The giving spirit is the praising spirit. One of the high points of any worship service should be the offering. When you think about it, it comes after communion and it is our response to God’s gift to us. That God would include us in His plan and grant us the privilege of giving is an amazing mystery to all who believe. Giving is essential to all praising because everything we do when we worship God; singing, praying, meditating involves giving.

Eventually, giving will include our material goods. Money is the essence of our time and labor so, when we give our money, we are giving a part of ourselves. We are acknowledging that we belong to God. When you love someone, giving is a natural part of your love.
