10 May Ephesians 2:8-10
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.
Sometimes God wants us to change a behavior and sometimes God wants us to do an obedient action that demands more than we are willing to give. This could be our Nineveh. It is the sounding call of God asking us to put Him first in our hearts or to be His person or to accept our duty as His servant. Yet, we refuse to heed His call, because we have never been His completely. We started toward Tarshish long before we heard God’s call to a specific place or to do a certain thing. We may not literally run away, but we fill our lives with so many activities, that time for God is squeezed out of our lives and ministry to others has been set aside until further notice. Some of us are running in every direction except God’s direction. My prayer is that we will reprioritize our lives and give God the first fruits. He gave us the fruit in the first place. Do not miss the implications of the call that sent Jonah running away from God. When we become Christians, God begins to transform our character into the image of His Son. He uses numerous ways to build character in us, but first, He has to transform our self-concern and get us moving toward loving people and sharing the reason for the hope that we have. The Gospel is not our own private possession. One day a sad, gloomy man finds a music box. When he opens the box, it plays music that transforms his life to one of joy and gladness.
