The Sword of the Spirit is our offensive weapon. In the 1st Century, it was a short sword that pierced the body to the heart, so the sword of God’s word cuts us to the heart. Peter tried to defend Jesus in the garden with a sword, which didn’t end up so well. The sword of the Spirit that he used on the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2 did a better job. There is an interesting observation in the fact that the more you use a physical sword, the duller it becomes, while using God’s sword makes it sharper in our lives.

Meditate on this: Jesus Christ is the whole armor of God. In Jn. 14: 6, He is the truth; in 2 Cor. 5: 21, He is righteousness; in Eph. 2: 14, He is peace; in Gal. 2: 20, He is faithfulness; in Lk. 2: 30, He is salvation; in John 1: 1, He is the word. So, my encouragement to you is; stop living a phony Christian life and put on Christ; the whole armor of God and get set for battle.
