17 May Ephesians 6:4
4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
My feeling is that most families need some effort called for. The Bible tells fathers not to exasperate their children. A newspaper surveyed 396 high school boys and 415 high school girls about the 10 most desirable qualities in a father. The second highest quality was respecting the children’s wishes. The 3rd highest was never nagging and the fourth was make plenty of money. Number 5 was being well-dressed and number 6 was have a nice car. Where has the Biblical ideal of the father gone? Parents should be worthy of respect and honor and should be controlling their anger, lying, stealing and their moral lives should be above reproach. Then they must direct their children’s actions by lovingly, firmly, guiding them and discipling them. Children must learn 3 things from their parents; the concept of reality, the concept of God, and the concept of himself. When parents go to extremes, these concepts are destroyed. You need to spend quantity time with your children so that when you get to have some quality time, your kids will want to be with you.
