01 Mar James 3:13-18; Acts 2:44-47
13 Who among you is wise and understanding? Let him show by his good behavior his deeds in the gentleness of wisdom. 14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not be arrogant and so lie against the truth. 15 This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, natural, demonic. 16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing. 17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy. 18 And the seed whose fruit is righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
Acts 2:44-47 44
And all those who had believed were together and had all things in common; 45 and they began selling their property and possessions and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need. 46 Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.
When do people go away? When the excitement fades. I love a parade, but I hate when it is over. Where do you go? You go home; back to boring daily life. That’s why people get caught up in exciting things like the Chiefs run to the Super Bowl or the Royals World Series win, or even your kids soccer win last Sunday morning. Jesus was healing the sick, feeding the hungry, doing miracles, you know; exciting stuff. When he preached a deep convicting sermon they left. That just isn’t exciting. Call us next time you have dinner on the grounds or a nice picnic with home made ice cream, we’ll come to that. If you want us to serve in the day in day out stuff; forget it. The people who leave are about themselves; pretty simple.
