13 Sep John 1: 4-8
4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. 5 The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
6 There came a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness, to testify about the Light, so that all might believe through him. 8 He was not the Light, but he came to testify about the Light.
In Jesus is everlasting life that both creates and redeems. Nothing can exist without that life and the quality of this everlasting life is in the fact that He redeems the lost and heals the broken. Jesus does not offer us a life that just goes on and on; He brings quality to our existence. Then, this life is the light of men, which dispels the chaos and darkness. His light not only makes us human, but it is also the light of salvation. I guess the problem is introduced when we are told the light shines in the darkness. Too often the darkness fights back and tries to quench the light though it can never overcome the light. John now tells us the light is a Person and there is one witness that comes to identify and point to the One who is the Light. He will tell the world He is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. Isn’t that our job? To be a witness to one who can change lives? People rejected Jesus, they rejected John’s message and they will reject you, but keep witnessing.
