24 Apr John 20:14-16

14 When she had said this, she turned around and *saw Jesus standing there, and did not know that it was Jesus. 15 Jesus *said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” Supposing Him to be the gardener, she *said to Him, “Sir, if you have carried Him away, tell me where you have laid Him, and I will take Him away.” 16 Jesus *said to her, “Mary!” She turned and *said to Him in Hebrew, “Rabboni!” (which means, Teacher).

When Mary first gets to the tomb, she just stands there and weeps. But, she was facing in the wrong direction and when she turned she saw Jesus. Many of us are facing in the wrong direction and need to see things as Jesus sees them. He sees her grief and wonders about it. Because Jesus has resurrected from the dead, we view suffering and death from a different vantage point. When Jesus speaks her name, she recognizes Him, because the sheep know the shepherd’s voice. When Jesus calls your name, you need to do what Mary did; she turned. She changed direction. She turned from grief to joy; from death to life. She calls Him, “Rabboni”, which is the title one gives to Jesus at the beginning of faith. From Savior to Lord; make a turn and find hope and gladness and life.
