20 Mar John 6:10-13; 1 Timothy 6:17; Psalm 107:9

10 Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. 11 Jesus then took the loaves, and having given thanks, He distributed to those who were seated; likewise also of the fish as much as they wanted. 12 When they were filled, He said to His disciples, “Gather up the leftover fragments so that nothing will be lost.” 13 So they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten.

17 Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy.

9 For He has satisfied the thirsty soul, and the hungry soul He has filled with what is good.

Jesus performed this sign, or miracle, and abundantly satisfied the crowd’s needs. That is how He operates; what Jesus provides is abundantly more than we can hope for. 1 Timothy 6 tells us that God “richly provides us with everything to enjoy.” Now, the world tries to offer us the same – as many pleasures as we can enjoy. However, we quickly find out most of these worldly pleasures are only temporarily satisfying, and are often more trouble than good. But what Jesus offers satisfies our deepest needs. “The hungry soul He fills with good things” (Ps. 107:9b ESV). Today, seek Jesus for your deepest longings and be abundantly satisfied!
