23 Sep Luke 23:44-49
44 It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour, 45 because the sun was obscured; and the veil of the temple was torn in two. 46 And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit.” Having said this, He breathed His last. 47 Now when the centurion saw what had happened, he began praising God, saying, “Certainly this man was innocent.” 48 And all the crowds who came together for this spectacle, when they observed what had happened, began to return, beating their breasts. 49 And all His acquaintances and the women who accompanied Him from Galilee were standing at a distance, seeing these things.
The disciples saw things as they were in the events that led up to the cross, with no hope of change. This brings discouragement with all expectations dashed. They needed the miracle of God’s intervention. Discouragement is based on a lack of faith. So many of us encounter things in our lives that make us discouraged. Remember, all is not lost. We can expect the Lord’s intervention, because He will meet all our needs. Jesus is faithful. He said He’d arise, and He did. Discouragement is removed by resurrection power. When Jesus ascended, He sent the Holy Spirit to empower us and to help us know Him. Fear of death, discouragement, evil, sickness, all gone. Jesus transformed a living into a deathless life. Now, with bold courage, go with God’s love to bring hope and life and the power of the resurrection to a lost world.
