04 Feb Matthew 11:28-30; 1 Peter 5:6-7
28 “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
1 Peter 5:6-7
6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, 7 casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.
I have been a Christian for 56 years and in full time ministry for 48 years, minus 4 months for a brief respite when I sold Toyotas for a living. I have learned many things, but perhaps the most important is that I need Jesus. You see, with all that experience, I still do not have it all figured out, but I know what sin is and I know that what I know doesn’t necessarily keep me from making wrong choices. I know that we Christians often make things pretty complicated and some of us think we have God all figured out. Some don’t think God cares, and most people have either gotten to the place where they have thrown up their hands and screamed, “What’s the use?” People are hurting, and we are hurting, and hope is fading. Most churches try to do good in Jesus’ name, but in their minds, they don’t believe that God works like He did back in Bible days. But God is alive and well. He has given us His church and we should be thriving as children of the King. It is time to rid ourselves of the add-ons and go back to the truths of Scripture. Let us unite under the banner of the cross, live a life of an overcomer, and dwell in our living hope.
