07 Feb Proverbs 1:23-25

Repent at my rebuke!
Then I will pour out my thoughts to you,
I will make known to you my teachings.
24 But since you refuse to listen when I call
and no one pays attention when I stretch out my hand,
25 since you disregard all my advice
and do not accept my rebuke,

One of the reasons we ignore God’s reproofs is plain old stubbornness. Verse 23 stated that you rejected when God called. Basically, this is directly refusing established authority, like Pharaoh who refused to let the Hebrews go. Sometimes we are just insensitive, by not paying attention. This is a lack of awareness, and believe me, it is hard to get through to an insensitive person. (Have you ever lived with a teenager?) Often, we are indifferent and ignore God’s advice. One of the worst attitudes is to not care. Maybe we are defensive and are unwilling to consent to our mistake and become one arrogant, proud person. I guess that initially it can be more satisfying to disobey, but, in the long run, we lose. There’s an old saying in the south…” Never get in a spittin’ match with a skunk. Even if you outspit him, ya’ come out stinkin’.” Wisdom is obeying God the first time.
