15 Jun Psalm 120:7; John 14:27
7 I am for peace, but when I speak,
They are for war.
27 Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.
The word translated as peace here is shalom, which goes well beyond our definition of merely a lack of conflict to the positive side of blessing and particularly a right relationship with God. Where or how can we find this peace? The Psalmist knew where to seek it when he called to the Lord in his distress (120:1). Jesus told His disciples that He was giving them peace, and not just any peace, His peace! When you feel distress or overwhelmed by living in a pagan world that doesn’t seem to care much about peace, follow the example of this Psalmist: call on the Lord. Seek Jesus for His peace, the peace that passes all understanding (Phil. 4:6-7).
