11 Jun Psalm 122:1; Hebrews 10:24-25
I was glad when they said to me,
“Let us go to the house of the Lord.”
24 and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, 25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.
One of the things we see in the Songs of Ascent from the Psalms is that the Israelites worshipped together, often journeyed together, and sang these songs together as a community. The church should operate the very same way, as a community worshipping God together as one body – the body of Christ! The author of Hebrews advises us to “not give up meeting together,” with some translations wording it more strongly: “not forsaking” or “not neglecting meeting together.” Friends, Scripture makes it clear that gathering together with fellow believers (in our context in the church and in a covenant group) is significant to our Christian walk. Church isn’t a place you attend, it’s a body you become part of! Who are you gathering with this week with the purpose of worshipping God and growing together in Jesus?
