02 May Romans 6:23, 5:6-8
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
6 For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
The word gospel means “good news,” and these Scriptures sure sound like good news! All have sinned and earned the wages of death, but…never has this little 3-letter word meant so much. God had a plan from the beginning to rescue His people from sin: to send His only Son (John 3:16). We can do nothing about our status as sinners standing before a holy God. So God intervened, “at just the right time,” with grace, proving how much He loves us. Grace is a gift, a “free gift” (NLT), and we can do nothing to earn it. A gift is something that is simply (hopefully gratefully) accepted. This is the simple, yet profound, gospel message – the good news. Someone you know needs to hear it!
